The Third International Forum “Engineering Technologies” summing up its work


Zhukovsky, August 17 – The Third International Forum “Engineering Technologies 2014” (Forum 2014) held from August 13 through August 17 in Zhukovsky of the Moscow Region at the Transport and Exhibition Complex Russia at the Ramenskoye airfield successfully completed its work. More than 80,000 people attended the event.


The Forum “Engineering Technologies 2014” and the Second International Exhibition of Military Equipment and Weapons “Oboronexpo 2014” became important events of this year’s exhibition program for Russian mechanical engineers and arms manufacturers. Participants of the Business Program determined the ways of addressing problems in the development of the vital industrial sector, established new business contacts, and signed numerous agreements and contracts. On August 16 and 17, the Forum was open to the general public. During those two days, its guests could view “The Invincible and Legendary” military patriotic program and the “Fast and Furious” show (“Forsage”) that has no analogs across the globe.


The Forum’s Business Program included 16 conferences, round tables and workshops with 100 contributors. Over 1,500 specialists became participants of these events. Representatives of several foreign companies implementing joint projects with Russian mechanical engineers participated in the Business Program of the Forum.


The Plenary Session “Cooperation and/or Import Substitution” became a key event of the Forum. It was attended by Dmitry Rogozin, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Yury Slusar, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Boris Alyoshin, Director General of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after Prof. N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI), Alexey Mikheev, Director General of Russian Helicopters JSC, Mikhail Khazin, President of Neokon Expert Consultancy Company LLC, and Liu Shiquan, Vice-President of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC). Mikhail Remizov, President of the National Strategy Institute, was the moderator of the panel discussion. The plenary session was attended by 550 specialists.


The first day of the Forum began with the joint session of the Public Council under the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Public Councils under the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) and the Federal Service for the Supervision of Environment, Technology and Nuclear Management (Rostekhnadzor), which was dedicated to the enhancement of the role of standardization in establishing mandatory requirements of Russian laws and development of engineering technologies.


Participants of the Round Table “National Automotive Industry: Current State and Future Prospects” agreed on the necessity of special efforts aimed at mitigation of negative effects of the sanctions imposed by a number of countries and development of the legislative and normative base. Special attention was given to the supply of the industry with high-quality parts and components, development of after-sales service, and professional training.


The Applied Research Conference “Integration of the Russian Federation Defense Industry Enterprises and the Enterprises of the Defense Sector of the Economy in the Republic of Belarus” gathered more than 100 specialists.


On August 14, the extended session of the Committee on Aircraft Industry of Russian Engineering Union dedicated to the improvement of normative legal regulation in the aircraft industry was held.


Confirming its status as a significant business event, the Forum “Engineering Technologies” became a platform for singing a large number of agreements and contracts. During the first two days of the exhibition, Rosoboronexport signed a few contracts and contractual arrangements for the total amount of ca $100M.


On August 14, the Russian Technologies State Corporation and Avia Solutions Group (Lithuania) singed a joint venture certificate on establishing JSC Ramport Aero. The new company will be involved in modernization of the Ramenskoye airfield. A total of more than 10 milliard rubles will be invested into the project.


Russian Helicopters Holding and JSC United Aircraft Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding on development and support of the ICOP (Industry Control Other Party) scheme in Russia.


JSC United Engine Corporation and Harbin Guanghan Gas Turbine Co., Ltd, a Chinese company, signed a cooperation agreement on aircraft engine conversion. Agreement implementation involves cooperation between the parties in the area of conversion of D-30KU/KP aircraft engines into industrial gas-turbine engines and search for marketing possibilities in China.


United Instrument-Making Corporation and Research and Industrial Concern “Machine Engineering Technologies” will develop joint projects in the area of high-tech products manufacturing. Among prospective areas determined for joint efforts are communication means and systems, telecommunications equipment, and automated control systems.


Concern Radio-Electronic Technologies (KRET) and JSC “Ural Works of Civil Aviation” signed an agreement on cooperation in the area of development and production of advanced complexes of airborne radio electronic equipment for general aviation. Additionally, KRET signed an agreement on cooperation and coordination with Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University.


Novikombank, a strategic partner of Forum 2014, carried out strenuous activity during the Forum. The Bank signed cooperation agreements with OJSC Research and Industrial Concern “Machine Engineering Technologies”, Stankoprom OJSC, United Instrument-Making Corporation and JSC "MZOR", the managing company of the Belstankoinstrument machine-tool holding. Additionally, the Bank signed a strategic partnership agreement with STAN Group of Companies.


VTB Bank entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Scientific and Industrial Enterprise Radar-MMS OJSC and an agreement with Concern Mosinformsistema-Agat OJSC, which also determines the principles and tools of efficient cooperation between the Bank and all of the Concern’s member companies. The Moscow Bank of Sberbank of Russia and United Instrument-Making Corporation signed a cooperation agreement as well.


The well-developed infrastructure of the Forum contributed to the successful involvement of its participants in the events of the Business Program. It included a special room for plenary sessions with the seating capacity of 550 people and conference halls for 50-100 people equipped with sound amplification systems, simultaneous interpretation and presentation display equipment. The Forum’s management furnished breakout rooms for business meetings in its pavilion, which could be booked by participants of various events.


A press centre with 50 workplaces and a press room for 100 people were arranged to meet the needs of the media covering the Forum. The press room served as a venue for press conferences and live broadcasts of the Plenary Session with keynote speakers. More than 2,000 journalists from 270 media outlets, including 29 foreign media, were accredited at Forum 2014. The Forum was covered by 36 television networks, including six foreign networks.


The Exhibition Program of the Forum “Engineering Technologies” was represented by the Second International Exhibition of Military Equipment and Weapons “Oboronexpo 2014.” More than 250 companies from the Russian Federation and abroad, including Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, Germany, India, China, the United Stated of America, France, Czech Republic, and Switzerland, participated in this event.


Among the Exhibition’s participants were major Russian companies of the military-industrial complex, including the Russian Technologies State Corporation, JSC United Aircraft Corporation, Russian Helicopters JSC, JSC United Engine Corporation, Aviation Equipment JSC, JSC RT-Chemcomposite, Shvabe JSC, JSC VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation, Concern Radio-Electronic Technologies (KRET), Research and Production Corporation “Uralvagonzavod”, Joint-Stock Company “Concern “Almaz – Antey”, FSUE “Gas Turbine Engineering RPC “Salut”, OJSC “KAMAZ”, OJSC “AVTOVAZ”, Concern VEGA OJSC, JSC Ruselectronics, JSC "NPO "High-Precision Complexes", FSUE TSNIITOCHMASH, Kalashnikov Concern JSC, and JSC “Concern “Sozvezdie”.


The expositions occupied an area of over 15,000 m2. Samples of weapons and military, specialized and civilian vehicles were displayed in the open air exhibition space of 6,000 m2. Twenty-four equipment units of the Russian Ministry of Defense were displayed in the static parking spaces. Among the highlights of the exhibition were S-400 and S-300V air defense missile systems, the Tor-M1 air defense missile system, the Pantsir-S air-defense and anti-aircraft artillery system, and the Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile system. Visitors of the exhibition showed great interest in modern artillery systems and units and valley fire systems, such as the Khrisantema-S self-propelled anti-tank missile system, the Grad valley fire system, and others. The section of armoured vehicles and trucks showcased T-90À, Ò-80U, Ò-72BZ tanks, the Msta-S self-propelled howitzer, Ural-BB and Ural-53099 armoured vehicles, and others. The latest samples of small arms were showcased by Kalashnikov Concern and Tula Arms Plant.


“The Invincible and Legendary” program became a striking demonstration of capabilities of civil and military equipment. Thirty items of equipment took part in the program. The large-scale demonstration under “The Invincible and Legendary” military patriotic program was held twice both on Saturday, August 16, and Sunday, August 17. The 125x200m range specially built for that purpose includes a system of tracks, passageways and artificial obstacles that allow demonstrating in full the performance characteristics of wheeled and caterpillar vehicles.


The 3-hour show “Fast and Furious” (“Forsage”) was a new addition to the Forum this year. It featured demonstration flights of jet fighters and flight teams, performances of famous motor sportsmen. The unprecedented races of jet aircraft and supercars became the highlight of the show. The MIG-29 and Su-30 jet fighters, the YAK-130 and L-39 training aircraft and the noted record-breakers among supercars Ferrari, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and others competed for the title of the fastest show participant. The Su-30 and MIG-29 jet fighters won the motor/aviation race.


More than 1,500 policemen and servicemen of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, employees of private security firms and the departmental security service ensured security at the Forum. There were no reported public order problems in the precincts of the exhibition. More than 60 buses transported guests of the exhibition complex from the parking lots and train stations.
